The Accreditation Process

  • 1. Application Submission:

    The process begins with the submission of an application by the interested entity seeking accreditation.

  • 2. Preliminary Evaluation:

    After receiving the application, ACBAA conducts an initial evaluation to determine whether the entity meets the preliminary requirements for accreditation.
    Programs that have:

    • A. met all eligibility requirements for ACBAA accreditation,
    • B. implemented assessment processes, and
    • C. implemented assessment processes, and
    may move on to the next step for full accreditation document review-- submitting all research, self study reviews, and requested data.

  • 3. Document Review:

    Following the preliminary evaluation, the submitted documents are thoroughly reviewed to assess their alignment with the accreditation criteria and guidelines.

  • 4. Site Evaluation:

    ACBAA conducts a site visit to assess the entity's facilities, procedures, and overall compliance with the established standards. For institutions, this site visit will be in-person. For all other submitting specimens, it will be a thorough online virtual review of the entity's structure.

  • 5. Comprehensive Decision:

    Subsequent to the site evaluation, a comprehensive review is conducted to assess all gathered information, leading to a final decision on the accreditation status.

  • 6. Accreditation Outcome:

    The final step involves communicating the accreditation outcome to the entity, which includes details about the accreditation status, any areas for improvement, and the terms and conditions of maintaining the accreditation. If approved, Maintenance instructions will be delivered to the entity that must be upheld or accreditation will be removed.
